IT HAS BEEN A YEAR

Since I was a little kid, I always knew that I wanted to go to uni and have a degree. My parents kept telling me the importance of having a degree and how it could benefit my life in different ways. Growing up, they didn’t have the same opportunity I had, and for that reason they never had the chance to attend uni themselves.

Last July, the day of walking across a stage to get my degree finally arrived, giving my parents the joy of feeling proud. It was an achievement not only for me, but for my entire family. So, what now? I was expecting to find a job after a couple of months. It didn’t happen. There is so many requirements from employers now, that it is quite impossible for new graduates to get a job. Even applying for graduate jobs positions, it’s so hard to get shortlisted. Sometimes I ask myself if it was worthy spending 3 years at uni, putting so many hours of my life studying and now having a £30k debt to not get the job I desire.

Sometimes I see myself losing all hopes and feeling depressed. Searching for jobs, changing your CV multiple times and going through long job applications can be very exhausting and demotivating. But at the end of the day, I have to find the energy to push myself and believe that my day will come and I will be able to get the job I wanted (or anything around that field). Some may say that “if you keep chasing your dreams, you will never catch them”, but I chose to believe that by following my instinct and knowing that I have the capability to do better, I will reach my career and life goals.

Even though I am struggling right now, I still believe that everyone should go to university and get a degree, you never know what it can do for your life. 99% of the time, good things comes out of it.
