A few months ago, I had the joy of visiting one of the countries from my bucket list. Even after having people close to me saying that it was not a country they enjoy visiting, I still wanted to see what it had to offer. I have to say, there was definitely a mixed feeling.
I loved the weather (most of the time). I am always trying to get a bit of a tan, even thought my melanin is already popping LOL. While I was there, the temperature was around 38 to 42 degrees. So it was kind of great compared to the raining weather in London at that time. However, the air was too dry and unbearable sometimes. To cool ourselves down, my friend and I decided to spend a day in one of their water parks called Oasirias. It was a lovely day and it made me feel like a kid again.
The people there were friendly and also always willing to help. It helped a lot when me and my friend found ourselves a bit lost. The food was tasty and I was able to enjoy all the fresh ingredients. I even went out of my comfort zone and ate food that were not pasta or burger (but not for too long).
Another thing that I loved and would recommend everyone to try is their Hamman Bath. It was amazing!!! I left that place feeling clean and super relaxed. It was a 10 out of 10 to me. But I would have to say, please check the place conditions before agreeing to do it there. Most of them are super dirty and not appropriate for that type of pampering activity.
The Medina market, is also a great place to visit and it will probably be the one place you will see more locals. There are lots of food trucks around, where they sell from traditional food to healthy/fresh fruits. Clothes, shoes and artisanal shops are all at footsteps away. Shopkeepers are always willing to negotiate prices, giving tourists the opportunity to grab some bargains. I was able to get some henna for free. OHHH!!! I SAW SOME SNAKES CHAMERS! CRAZYYYY!!!
On the downside, my visit was during Ramadan and for that reason, I wasn’t able to have as much fun as I was hoping. Some places were closed during day time and night clubs were also closed. This prevented me from experiencing the night life in Marrakesh and watching the famous belly dancers performance.
Camel trekking was something I was super excited to do until the time came. It was a horrible experience in my opinion. Felt really bad for the poor animal. It was just so heart-breaking. Trekking took around one hour, that felt like forever under the hot and burning sun. To make this experience even worse, we had to go to some random lady’s house where we were offered some mint tea and Moroccan msemen (it was delicious by the way). It was just the fact that, we were not made aware that it would be happening before hand and we didn’t have any idea of where we were and who that lady was. Creepy, very creepy.
And finally, our hotel location. I stayed at Hotel Marrakesh and it was super far from town. There was only 3 different bus transfer time during the day and taxi from town to the hotel was too expensive. Hotel’s food price was also expensive and there was no restaurant or shops around. However, the hotel itself was actually good considering the price I paid for it.
